This is what is on my design wall today and I am so happy that these blocks are sewn together! I have been working on this project since March 2008 but most of the blocks have been sitting in a box waiting for some attention.

I sewed the red scrappy alternate blocks in February, and hand embroidered this last 6" block in April.
Now I am pondering what to do about the borders....do you have any ideas to pass along?!?Hop on over to Patchwork Times to see what other quilters have on their design walls today.
Love it! Of course, I have all the PDF files on my computer. I never did start the blocks, but still love it. I think this is the best setting I've seen of these blocks. Good for you for making such progress!
ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous! My border opinion is to extend the red out to finish off the design and use the same white for the remainder of the border. But that's just MY opinion. ;)

ReplyDeleteHum, red would be my choice. How complicated do you want to make it? Maybe a red/white/red of equal width strips. In the corners put a nine patch with white in the outside corners. Hey, it's not mine so I'll give you a bit complicated border! It looks great so far.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of finishing the red design and filling in with plain white and binding it in red.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt. Love a quilt when embroidery is also involved. IMHO you could consider keeping this seperate from you quilt and make it into a wallhanging by adding a couple plain or pieced borders to hang on the wall in your quilting area.

Beautiful! Love the simplicity and charm. Judy has great border ideas--maybe you can find something in her designs that you like. Me, I tend to do borderless quilts!
ReplyDeleteVERY cute and all those red blocks are so well done. I think that a red border is all you need if you think you need one. I am not a big fan of tons of borders or intricately pieced ones. Great quilt

ReplyDeleteI would add some patches to the outer part then a solid border to frame it. My 2 cents worth...
I agree about a red inner border. I might do a larger white border with appliqued red flowers and then the red binding. It is going to be a beautiful quilt.

ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful. If it were mine, I think I would do a simple red border, the same width as the reds in your blocks. That way all the work you put in the embroidery will come to the forefront, and be the star.
