I have a big reveal for design wall Monday this week and am so excited to show you my Cathedral Stars quilt top!
This project was started in this class with Bonnie Hunter in September last year.
These are my 2 blocks...
Jacob's Ladder, which I disliked because the red and green seem too dark and overpowering in the quilt,
and the Tri Recs Star blocks, which I really liked and which used up a lot of gold scraps.
And here are the blocks in my finished quilt top!
I picked the layout that had the least number of ladder blocks and the most star blocks, then tried to emphasize the gold with a small inner gold border. I don't love the quilt...it is definately not nearly as interesting as Bonnie's quilt, but I do love that it is a FINISHED quilt top! It is too large to fit on my design wall and is taped to the walls at the top and on the sides!

OH! So nice - lots of work but well worth it.
ReplyDeleteI really like the quilt and don't think the red/green over powers it at all. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI love the way it turned out!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt! I love bonnie's quilts, tips and enthusiam.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kathy. I can understand why you think red/green overpowers in the block picture but in the quilt it is well balanced with all the other colors and movement. Nice job Kathy!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful quilt!
ReplyDeleteNice and the gold is great! This is a great quilt. Maybe you will love it once it is quilted!
ReplyDeleteYour piecing is really pretty. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is just lovely!
ReplyDeleteApplause, applause - it's beautiful, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteI like the red/green blocks, they give the top character and a "zing" quality!! Congrats another finished top!
ReplyDeleteIt's terrific and 'wooh-hoo' on getting it together.
ReplyDeleteYour piecing work looks excellent, what lovely crisp points. I love the colours too
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautiful. The red and green are not overpowering in the final layout. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIt sure looks good to me....... You did a great job with that Bonnie Hunter design...... Aren't you delighted to have a near finish?
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I think adding the goal zigger was a great idea and really helps show up the stars.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, I love it...Good job finishing it. I hate doing the Tri Recs star even though the rulers are great. Your's are wonderful.. Great finish!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Kathy!! If what you are not liking is there is not a lot of variety in the fabrics, just wait. When you quilt it, all the texture of the quilting will be like icing on the cake and I know you will like it! It is BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteBonnie
Your quilt top is beautiful! I like the thin gold border--really finishes it off nicely. I don't mind the red and green at all--Can't wait to see it quilted!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job of balancing the colors. What color are you going to use for the binding?
ReplyDeleteBeautifully constructed and well balanced. Maybe it will grow on you with time, I've had a couple of quilts that have affected me that way. Congratulations on getting a UFO to the finished top stage.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is beautiful! I am sure you will love it once it is done!
ReplyDeleteI'm really liking the color combination
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt top. Colors are great!
ReplyDeleteI think you achieved a great balance of colors there, Kathy! It is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's really pretty! Sometimes a bit of time allows the critisism of ourselves to mellow....Next week you will LOVE it as much as we do.
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous. Did you use a tri rec ruler to make the stars? I am thinking about making a quilt that has these same stars.
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks great!!! Love the colors. The red and green add alittle spice.
ReplyDeleteWow, I had a great time, visiting your blog. Incredible creations and so much done.
ReplyDeleteI love the title: 2011 UFO Wishlist!
Congrats on getting this one to finished top stage :)
